Rivals on Television Technology Companies Samsung and LG announced that next year’s possible line-up of television
products will be using the Quantum Dot
Technology. Earlier press reports claimed that both of the companies will
end the production of Plasma TVs
before the year ends.
Integration of Quantum
Dot Technology in television products is believed to supersede the place of
the current Plasma, LED and LCD TVs in the market. Better picture quality is expected for the
future’s line-up of Televisions. It was said that the performance of a Quantum
Dot TV is comparable to that of the more pricey OLED televisions.
Although OLED
is considered to be the better deal when it comes to picture quality, it may
take years for its production to become marketable since it uses “organic”
molecules (the O in OLED) in which manufacturing cost is too high.
What is a Quantum Dot?
Quantum Dot is a product of nanotechnology, it was
discovered in a glass matrix by Alexei Ekimov and in a colloidal solution by
Lois E. Brus. They are nano-crystals that exhibit “quantum” behavior in which
their physical state exists at a more variable state. These dots emit purer and
more vivid colors than LED screens.
